Cockermouth Beer Festival

Welcome to the 2008 Cockermouth Beer Festival

On behalf of Cockermouth Round Table, we would like to welcome you to our 6th annual Beer Festival.

As all of you who have regularly returned to visit the Beer Festival over the years will know, this is a fun and friendly event with a wide and varied selection of Beers to sample, and fantastic entertainment provided througout the festival. A perfect start to the festive period.

The aim of our festival is to raise funds for charities and worthy causes in the local area, and can only be made possible with the help of our many sponsors, the hard work by Round Table members, the invaluable support provided by Jennings Brewery, Firpress Printers and most importantly the many guests that we hope will visit the festival.

This year we will be building on the success of past festivals to provide the best selection of beers our area has to offer, in the best possible cask condition, having settled in the week leading up to the festival in cool conditons. The majority of the ales at the festival will be served from the cask by traditional hand pump, ensuring a good head in the condition intended by the brewer.

The continuing philosophy of the Cockermouth beer festival is to personally contact and consult with every one of the growing number of Cumbrian Breweries to make sure we present the ales that they want at the festival as their show piece, demonstrating the best they have to offer. In addition to the Cumbrian Breweries we will be offering a wide selection of ales from our surrounding counties of Northumbria, County Durham, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Dumfries & Galloway.

As always entertainment is high on our list of priorities, with music this year provided by Cockermouth band – The Naturalz on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th December.

Locals will probably have seen this very popular band on one of their many appearances on the pub circuit in and around Cockermouth. Their diverse play list covers decades of classic rock right up to modern day, making sure that all music tastes are covered.

Finally we would like to thank everyone at The Kirkgate, especially Kate, for her very proactive support and assistance this year.  Thanks to Sue and Mike from The Bitter End, David from The Bush, Beryl from The Swan, and Mags and Jon from Margietas for selling tickets.

Have a great festival, be merry and come again next year,

Graham Hampson
